Why Your Aesthetic Treatment Didn't Work: Face Size, Double Chin, and Enlarged Pores

Gangnam Choice Clinic explains why a treatment can miss the mark: jawline botox only works for a masseter-type face, while a double chin or unclear jawline first needs to be sorted into laxity, fat, or bone. Don't copy what worked for someone else; find out what your problem actually is.

At Gangnam Choice Clinic, we see the same situation again and again during consultations: a treatment was done, but it feels like nothing changed. The problem is usually not the machine — it's that the direction chosen and the real problem are not the same thing. A large face does not mean a large masseter; jawline botox only fits the masseter type, while the fat type and the bone type are a different matter.

For a double chin and jawline, what should you sort out first?

First sort out whether it is laxity, fat, or bone, then decide the direction. If a double chin is mostly fat, it can be assessed, but if it is mainly laxity, the direction of treatment is different; the same goes for an unclear jawline — more shots do not make it more visible.

Why can't you copy someone else's treatment for pores, dryness, and nasolabial folds?

Because the same visible sign can have different causes behind it. If enlarged pores come with oiliness and rough skin texture, gold microneedling may be more worth assessing; if you keep getting skin booster injections while your face is dry and your skin barrier itself is unstable, the skin condition needs to be stabilized first; before filling nasolabial folds directly with filler, some are actually related to midface support, fat position, or even expression.

  • If your face looks fleshy but there isn't much fat to begin with, continuing fat-reduction directions like ONDA may instead make it look hollow
  • Being 30 is not a reason to start fixed radiofrequency and ultrasound lifting sessions; age is not an indication for a course of treatment — do it only if there is real laxity

Our clinic is in Gangnam, Seoul, and the director personally performs every treatment one-on-one. The same treatment that felt amazing on your friend may not hold up on your face — aesthetic medicine is not about seeing what worked for others, but about seeing what your problem actually is.
